Junior Philippine Geographical Society–UP Diliman (JPGS-UPD)

Junior Philippine Geographical Society–UP Diliman (JPGS-UPD) is an academic and socio-civic organization dedicated to Geography enthusiasts of the University of the Philippines-Diliman. It is united in the desire to promote the distinct discipline of Geography amongst the Filipino youth, to reveal the importance of Geography in the society, to enhance geographical knowledge, and to encourage students to specialize in any domain of Geography.

The JPGS-UPD is devoted to upholding geography as a tool for understanding the issues and problems of the Philippine society through projects that inspire social awareness.

During its inception, JPGS-UPD has launched Geography Camp, the premiere and well-known geography outdoor activity in UP Diliman which provides geographic symposium using GPS, OpenStreet Mapping, GeoTag, Orienteering and teaches survival skills to campers every semester.

On its 5th anniversary, the organization has institutionalized programs such as high school visits (career orientation) and academic competitions that further the discipline of geography to the Filipino youth. Geography Challenge was launched as the main project on the same year, that includes poster making, speech competition, and essay writing contest.

On its 10th year, JPGS-UPD has launched National Geography Challenge, the newest nationwide geography competition which includes Geography Quiz Bowl, Impromptu Speech Competition, Essay Writing Contest and Poster Making Competition designed for high school students in the Philippines.

On its 12th year, the organization has launched different events with the theme, “Infinite Horizons.” These events marked the welcoming of a new decade of JPGS-UPD as they promote Geography in the Filipino society.
