The 5th National Conference on Geographical Studies was concluded at Balay Kalinaw, UP Diliman on December 9, 2009 with the theme “Mapping Sustainable Pathways for a Safer and More Resilient Greater Manila Region.” This was a multi-sectoral and collaborative discussion on the current state of Greater Manila development with the end-in-view of drafting possible, holistic strategies and improvements of the extant urban forms and systems of the time towards a safer and sustainable future for the Greater Metro Manila Region. The conference brought together a broad range of stakeholders (policy makers, NGOs, academe from disciplines of Engineering, Physical and Social Sciences) to discuss and come up with strategic and integrative solutions in dealing with natural disasters occurring in urban environments.
